Casual Orioles fans everywhere are freaking out at the speculation that we could end up signing Vlad Guerrero this week. For cereal guys, there are people hanging on every word and really letting the Orioles have it for not getting this done already. The guy is a HOF player and had a “great” year for Texas last year. What are we waiting for? I mean, shouldn’t we all be super excited to sign Vlad Guerrero’s corpse at this stage?
Here at Eutaw Street Hooligans we not only give you analysis on games and offseason moves but since we can’t get any media credentials of our own we also give you the breakdown on other people’s interviews. We would all have liked to ask Joe Jordan how he feels about 2009’s fifth overall pick, Matt Hobgood but since no one in the warehouse knows who we are it is hard to get close enough to ask any questions. Luckily for everyone Joe sat down with Steve Melewski over at masnsports.com for an interview last week.
Fuck, that really got boring quickly. Now we have to wait weeks with nothing at all to talk about until Spring Training starts. Yes, the Orioles are apparently not done making moves before camp but nothing major is expected and there has been nothing in the way of news over the last couple of weeks. Sure, a lot of fans have been clamoring for the O’s to sign Vladimir Guerrero but it’s not likely to happen, and I am totally fine with that.
So I haven’t posted any reactions to the Orioles latest moves and for that I am ashamed. So without further adieu I would like to do so now if that would be agreeable. Since you cannot answer me back I will just assume that it is.
I was reading through the latest posts at one of my favorite sites, MLB Trade Rumors, and found this in reference to Andruw Jones’ possible fit with the Yankees:
He bats right-handed and can play all three outfield positions, so he could provide the Yankees with some pop as a fourth outfielder and spell Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner.
I’m glad Andruw can spell. That seems like an attribute that not only baseball players should have, but other humans too.
I disagreed with the above assessment though so I did some digging. On baseballreference.com Andruw has a career +spell% of only about 35. You have to factor in his down year in ’06 when he had a putrid +spell% of 13. That, coupled with his SCP (Spelling, capitalization, and punctuation) of only 960 and you have one of your worst spelling seasons ever. Still though, his career numbers are nothing to hang your hat on.
ZiPs only has him at a +spell% of about 43 this year so I’m thinking I’d like to see the Yankees make such a stupid move. Not that we need the help. The O’s had the highest team SCP last year of 31,989.
Foreign people must fucking hate trying to learn English.
Here’s my top 5 reasons I’m ready for some Orioles baseball.
5. Under the Radar
I think a lot of the additions that we’ve made have been under the radar moves. People are going to be pissing their pants about Reynolds strike-out potential and what not but they are dumb. Quietly, we’ve put together a nice little team. We aren’t winning the World Series but there is more room for optimism this year than there should have been in past years. You want to get excited like me? It’s allowed. Plus we didn’t sign any markee names that will cause bandwaggoners and deserters to start suddenly flooding the park so we can continue to sit anywhere we want.
With the new year brings new changes….
I have come out of the closet to my parents! It was a really difficult decision, but in the end (hehe) I think it is best for my future that I am honest with not only myself but those close to me as well. My dad was pissed. He did look fabulous though.
